The Italian Cooperation with Fondazioni 4 Africa and Fondazione Charlemagne, and with the technical support of CeSPI, has started the National Diaspora Summit process since 2017. This process has seen the implementation of various activities that have aimed to open Italian cooperation to the participation of diasporas. A mapping of immigrant associations involved in solidarity actions with their countries of origin has been carried out. Various meetings have been held around Italy to get to know these associations and provide information on how they can be involved in official cooperation. Training actions on cooperation followed and in particular CeSPI has drawn up information and reflection documents on the role of immigrant associations in cooperation. Every two years, large Summit meetings have been held that have seen the participation of hundreds of people, and the idea of establishing a Diaspora Forum as a political interlocutor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has been launched.
A third phase of the process has begun in 2022, which will further concretize the involvement of diasporas in cooperation. For which communication will be given.
